The phrase, which translates to “We are Sifuna”, has captured the attention of social media users across Kenya, becoming a rallying cry for those expressing solidarity with the senator.

The growing online slogan “Sisi ndio Sifuna” has provided a morale boost for Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, who is navigating a period of heightened political scrutiny.

The senator said the digital wave of support has reinforced his belief that he has a strong backing, particularly from young Kenyans, at a time when the country is watching political developments closely.

The phrase, which translates to “We are Sifuna”, has captured the attention of social media users across Kenya, becoming a rallying cry for those expressing solidarity with the senator.

Sifuna described the response as a powerful reminder that public support matters in shaping the political landscape.

“When Kenyans said ‘Sisi ndio Sifuna’, I felt safe. I know we are many, and there is power in numbers, and it gave me confidence that even if they try to push me down, there are like ten million people who will still push our journey. I’m happy for the country, and I remain eternally grateful for the support that we have received,” he told Radio Citizen.

He emphasized that Kenya is at a pivotal moment where leaders must pay attention to citizens’ voices.

“We have a historic moment in the country to set the record straight that some people have refused to listen to Kenyans. That is the time to remind us of some things.”

The slogan emerged from Sifuna’s familiar self-introduction, “Mimi ndio Sifuna”, and has since grown into a broad digital movement. Its popularity surged further after the senator hosted two well-known TikTok personalities at his office, an event that quickly made waves on social media.

Photos posted on his official X account captured the senator in high spirits, warmly interacting with the visitors. In one image, the TikTokers handed him a white T-shirt reading “Mimi ndio Sifuna,” while the back displayed a Kenyan flag and coat of arms, combining political symbolism with internet culture.

“Ma baddies wa pale TikTok wameamua kuni kit for Sunday. Thanks for the love and support, bwana. God bless,” Sifuna captioned the post.

The visit sparked reactions across social media, with many users applauding the senator as the “Sisi ndio Sifuna” slogan trended widely.

This comes amid an internal party dispute, following ODM’s decision to remove Sifuna from his secretary general position. At a press briefing in Nairobi, he maintained that he remains the lawfully elected secretary general of the party.

“I was not given a chance to defend myself,” he said, insisting that the NEC’s decision breached party rules.

Sifuna has since obtained temporary court orders halting his removal, setting the stage for both a legal and political contest over his role, as public attention on his leadership continues to grow.
